Building Climate Resilience for Coffee Smallholders in Rwanda
Last week we met in Rwanda with our client CPF INEZA and our business partner Pure Africa Coffee to discuss the impact of climate change on the production and income of the coffee smallholders they source from. We witnessed firsthand how unpredictable heavy rains caused flooding in the hills outside Muhanga.
At LendXS, we are committed to help lenders better assess the crop- and location-specific climate risks their smallholder borrowers are facing. Moreover, we also identify the adaptation measures required to enhance their climate resilience. These include investments in improved land management, climate-resistant seeds, crop diversification, irrigation and water storage solutions. When properly de-risked, these adaptation measures present new and attractive opportunities for lenders.
